Chicken and Waffles

Crispy golden fried chicken served over fluffy waffles and drizzled with maple syrup — the perfect comfort food fusion of sweet and savory.

Ingredients:

For the Chicken:

  • 4 boneless chicken thighs or drumsticks

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for coating)

  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

For the Waffles:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 ¼ cups milk

  • 2 large eggs

  • 4 tablespoons melted butter

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

For the Fried Chicken:

  1. Marinate Chicken:
In a bowl, combine buttermilk, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add chicken and marinate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for more flavor).

  2. Coat & Fry:
Heat oil in a deep skillet to 180°C (350°F). Dredge chicken in flour until fully coated. Fry for 6–8 minutes per side until golden brown and fully cooked. Drain on paper towels.

For the Waffles:

  1. Make the Batter:
In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients until smooth.

  2. Cook Waffles:
Heat waffle iron and grease lightly. Pour batter and cook according to your waffle maker's instructions until golden and crisp.

To Serve:

  • Stack waffles on a plate, top with crispy chicken.

  • Drizzle generously with maple syrup or hot honey.

  • Optional: Add butter or serve with coleslaw on the side.

Tips:

  • Don’t skip the buttermilk marinade — it makes the chicken juicy and tender.

  • Use a wire rack to keep fried chicken crispy while you make waffles.

  • Make it spicy with a dash of cayenne in the flour or a spicy maple syrup.
