Cool, creamy, and studded with rich chocolate flakes, Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream is a refreshing dessert that’s both light and indulgent. With real mint flavor and a smooth texture, it’s a homemade favorite that never goes out of style.
Ingredients:
-
2 cups heavy cream
-
1 cup whole milk
-
3/4 cup granulated sugar
-
1 1/2 teaspoons peppermint extract (not mint extract)
-
A few drops green food coloring (optional)
-
Pinch of salt
-
3/4 cup mini chocolate chips or finely chopped dark chocolate
Instructions:
-
Make the Ice Cream Base
In a mixing bowl, whisk together heavy cream, milk, sugar, peppermint extract, food coloring (if using), and salt until the sugar dissolves completely. -
Chill the Mixture
Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results. -
Churn the Ice Cream
Pour the chilled mixture into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. -
Add Chocolate
During the last 5 minutes of churning, add the mini chocolate chips or finely chopped chocolate. -
Freeze to Firm
Transfer the churned ice cream to a container and freeze for at least 2 hours until firm.
Tips:
-
Use high-quality peppermint extract for a clean, refreshing flavor.
-
For soft chocolate flakes instead of chips, drizzle melted chocolate into the ice cream during the last few minutes of churning (known as the stracciatella method).
Serving Suggestions:
Serve with chocolate sauce, crushed cookies, or a sprig of fresh mint for garnish.
