Gnocchi with Tomato Sauce
Gnocchi with Tomato Sauce is a timeless Italian dish made with pillowy-soft gnocchi tossed in a savory tomato and garlic sauce. It’s quick to prepare and delivers hearty flavor in every bite.
Ingredients
For the Gnocchi (or use store-bought):
-
500 g (1 lb) gnocchi
For the Tomato Sauce:
-
2 tablespoons olive oil
-
2 garlic cloves, minced
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
400 g (14 oz) canned crushed tomatoes
-
1 teaspoon dried oregano
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
-
A pinch of sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
-
Fresh basil leaves, chopped (optional)
-
Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Instructions
1. Cook the Gnocchi
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook until they float to the top (about 2–3 minutes). Drain and set aside.
2. Make the Sauce
Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the onion until soft, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar. Simmer the sauce for 10–15 minutes until slightly thickened. Stir in fresh basil if using.
3. Combine
Add the cooked gnocchi to the sauce and toss gently to coat. Cook together for 1–2 minutes to blend flavors.
4. Serve
Spoon into bowls and top with grated Parmesan and more basil if desired. Serve hot.
